About Alcoa Tenn Credit Union
On July 12, 1936, Plate Mill Employees Credit Union was established in a corner of the West Plant of Alcoa, Inc's Tennessee Operations with 9 members at the organizational meeting. Holman Vincent was the first teller, treasurer and officially opened the credit union on July 9, 1936. The Credit Union grew and soon there were 204 members and the first teller drawer was created from a cigar box. The Credit Union began making pay day loans for lunch and other small needs. In 1959 the Credit Union officially became Alcoa Tenn Federal Credit Union and continued to grow. In the late 1970's the Credit Union made it's first $10,000 loan.
