The Chinese bank regulator (CBRC) has granted Banco SantanderAos Shanghai branch a licence to deal in the local currency, the renminbi. This makes Santander the only Spanish or Latin American bank to hold such a licence and allows it to carry out direct trades for its corporate customers in China. It also strengthens SantanderAos position as a bank of reference in the growing economic links between China and Latin America.
