The roots of the Bank in Zurich reach back into the century before last. Schoop, Reiff & Co. AG was set up as a stock exchange member bank in Zurich in 1880, and quickly became established within the group of financial institutions specializing in securities. The Gut, Streiff AG Bank, concentrating on the asset management business, emerged from it in 1965. In 1978, the Bank was taken over by major Japanese and Swiss banks and investors, who changed its name to Interallianz Bank Zorich AG. M.M.Warburg & CO KGaA took the Bank over in September 1996, with a corresponding change of name. Our parent corporation and sole shareholder, M.M.Warburg & CO KGaA, has been based in Hamburg since it was first established in 1798, and is now the second-largest independent private bank in Germany.
