The National Bank of Belgium (Banque nationale de Belgique, NBB) is the central bank of Belgium and is a member of the European System of Central Banks. Since 1 January 1999 the National Bank has played an active part in the definition and implementation of the Eurosystem's monetary policy. Financial supervision is the instrument for ensuring financial stability, the second key function of a central bank, alongside monetary stability.
