New Bedford Credit Union was started by a group of city workers in 1932. It was located in a small room on the second floor of the central fire station. Membership was only open to city of New Bedford employees and their immediate family members. At that time members were limited to $5 in deposits per week. Today the New Bedford Credit Union has grown dramatically. The Main Office is located across the street from the fire station at 1150 Purchase Street in New Bedford. There is also a branch in the North End of New Bedford at 120 Dawson Street. The credit union has over 30 employees and has topped $100 Million in assets. Membership is now open to anyone living or working in the Greater New Bedford area. Through the years while many aspects of the credit union have changed, the personalized service remains the same.
